Bandmaster Capt Peter Ward
Capt Peter Ward, Bandmaster of Derbyshire ACF Band (Mercian Regt ), started playing on a Baritone at the age of 8 with Shirland Band, since then he has played with numerous local brass bands Riddings, Heage and Bestwood Black Diamonds Bands to name but a few. in 1983 he found his passion with military music by joining The Band of South Nottinghamshire Hussars (Territorial Army ), where he stayed until being asked by Col T Van Reece, The then Commandant of ACF Music and Derby ACF Commandant Col J Wilson if he and his wife Jan would form a band in Derbyshire ACF.
Over the past 45years Peter has played in many different countries on jobs ranging from concerts in parks, dinner night, Marching displays, Oom pah bands, quintet and fanfares. Playing instruments ranging from Baritone to Sousa Phones and of late he has learnt the Bagpipes
Peter has enjoyed every minute of music and finds passing this knowledge of music on to enthusiastic young people very refreshing and rewarding.
