The Band of The Mercian
Regiment
On the 1st September 2007, 3 Regiments from the Prince of Wales Division and parts of 3 Territorial Army Regiments formed The Mercian Regiment, these Regiments were - 1st Battalion The 22nd (CHESHIRE) Regiment, 1st Battalion The Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment, 1st Battalion The Staffordshire Regiment, The West Midland Regiment (Volunteer) plus elements of The Kings Cheshire Regiment (V) and The East of England Regiment (V). The 4th Battalion The Mercian Regiment is the Territorial Army (TA) Battalion of The Mercian Regiment. The Band of the West Midland Regiment was renamed The Volunteer Band of the Mercian Regiment as part of this amalgamation. The Band appears at a variety of engagements throughout the Mercian region, from the Lord Mayors Charity functions in Birmingham, Lord Mayors Parade in Shrewsbury, Annual Remembrance Parades at various locations, Service Mess Functions for many varied Regiments and Corps, and also provides support to many civil and service charities. Over the last 12 months the band has toured in Holland, Germany and Belfast providing musical support for both military and civilian events. The Band is made up of Volunteers of over 30 musicians, of whom 50% are ladies, from many varied backgrounds such as students, lorry drivers, nurses, scientists, housewives, teachers etc, ably led by our Bandmaster (WO1) Antony J Evans BA(Mus) LRSM. Antony served with the Band of the 3rd Battalion the Light Infantry and was Bandmaster of the Hussars and Light Dragoons before joining us in January 2006.
